Rixio E. Medina, CSP, CPP
Rixio E. Medina is the Managing Member of RE Medina Management, L.L.C. and General Partner, Rixio Medina & Associates,L.P.
Prior to starting his private fire, safety and security consulting practice, he had a distinguished career of thirty years with PDVSA/CITGO and retired as the Vice President of Health, Safety, Security, Environmental Protection and Shared Services of CITGO Petroleum CorporationĀ in Houston, Texas. As an officer of the corporation, Mr. Medina was responsible for overseeing CITGO's health services, safety, information and corporate security, environmental protection, information technology, procurement, real estate and the corporate services functions. He was Vice Chair of the Procurement Committee and Member of the Human Resources Committee.
He had previously held the positions of safety engineering supervisor for Mobil Oil Corporation in Illinois and environmental, health and safety superintendent for PDVSA, Venezuela
Mr. Medina received a Master of Science degree in Industrial Security from Central Missouri State University (1982) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology-Fire Protection and Safety (1977) from Oklahoma State University. He is a Certified Safety Professional in Comprehensive Practice and a Certified Protection Professional.
Medina is a professional member of the American Society Safety Engineers (ASSE).
He served as ASSE Board of Director as the Vice President of Professional Affair, and on the Bylaws, Diversity and Standard Development Committees.
He is the recipient of the 2009 Diversity in the Safety, Health and Environmental Profession Award, the 2009 Recognition for Promoting the Safety Profession Among Latinos and Making a Positive Impact in the Latino Community from ASSE Professional and Latino Workforce Common Interest Group, and the 2003 ASSEs Presidents Award for his work as an International emissary.
Medina serves on the Advisory Board of Oklahoma State University School of Fire Protection and Safety.
He was one of the 2009 recipients of the OSU Distinguished Alumni Award and in 2008 he was inducted to the OSU School of Fire Protection and Safety Hall of Heroes and Legends.
Medina served on the Safety and Fire Protection Subcommittee of the American Petroleum Institute and of the Fire & Accident Prevention and Security Committees of the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association.
In 2003, Medina was appointed by the President of the United States with the Senate review and consent to serve as a Board Member onĀ the United States Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board in Washington, D.C. Previously he was appointed by the Secretary of Labor under Presidents Clinton and Bush to serve two terms as safety representative on the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH).
Medina also served as a member on the Local Emergency Planning Committees and Contractor Safety Councils in Lake Charles, Louisiana and Corpus Christi, Texas, and as the Vice-Chair of the Civil Service Board and Chair of the Civil Service Commission for the City of Corpus Christi.
Currently he serves on the Board of the ASSE Foundation where he sponsors the Hispanics in Safety Scholarship and Professional Development Grants and is a Member of Council of Membership and Region Affairs Global Committee. Medina is a Director on the Board of Certified Safety Professional.
